I m from Tanzania and have problem with this for long time . why and what the core reason for having others being employed and not the Tanzanians? And whose fault is it if they don't become the beneficiaries of these new investments?

I find nothing wrong in sharing our precious “Tanzanite jobs” to competent, professional “outsiders”. In that, some of these expatriates come from their countries laden with the expertise crucial to jump-starting our economy. They come from a different land, laden with skills and knowledge that may be lacking, if not totally amiss in ours. Therefore, instead of   green-eyedly accusing them of snatching our jobs, we should busy ourselves tapping on this valuable resource that comes disguised as “foreigners-grabbing-our-jobs”!

Like it or not, in the cut-throat world of business, everyone is out there to make a profit. And when it comes to hiring staff, a business owner looks at what a potential employee has to offer. Whether one has Tanzanian blood running through their veins is not enough to get a job done! I am not declaring my fellow Tanzanians as not good enough for the jobs already taken by them- foreigners, but in as much as we would love to label them as job-thieves and hopefully succeed in declaring them as partly responsible for the ever-surging rate of unemployment, lets not deny that some of them are better equipped for the positions they are holding.

There are many ways in which the economy of Tanzania can be revived. One being; through generating jobs for the massively unemployed. Not by kicking the handful of foreigners out of their cradles, but by expanding the already existing business enterprises and encouraging the citizenry at large, to engage itself in small scale business, instead of moaning the already occupied salaried positions. For, if everyone went looking for a job, who would do the hiring? I am talking about seeking greener pasture through self-employment instead of relying on someone to dish out a job. It sounds easier said than done, and it surely is going to cost a fortune in terms of money, time and energy spent. But no one has ever promised success on a silver platter. Not even the Late Nyerere.

Some leaders could be partly liable for the plight of our nation. Especially the “fat cats” who shamelessly embezzle public funds set aside to better our infrastructure. Tanzania gets a lot of revenue in the form of taxes paid by its citizens and investors, not forgetting donor aid and the tourism industry. Unfortunately, a portion of these funds ends up in the pockets of a few itchy-handed individuals. No wonder some regions of Tanzania do not have even a strip of tarmac. Quality healthcare and education goes at a high cost which the “common man” may not afford. And some of our people live from hand to mouth, barely meeting their basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. Not because Tanzania is a ‘poor’ nation, but because public funds are misappropriated. (Overlooking other factors like poor planning, bad economic policies, laziness. . .).

Kikwete has promised a brighter Tanzania, which Tanzanians are now really waiting on him to deliver. And to set the ball rolling from worst to best, it is so natural to expect corrupt leaders to be brought to book on how public funds are spent, and that there would  be no sacred cows in Kikwete’s government. Voters are also watching to see if Kikwete and his government would turn out to be different from what some neighboring countries have or his predecessors. Does he preach water and drink wine?

Ah. ha. . . .no, no.

Truth be told! Home is not always best.

Not when I think of the mbus (mosquitoes), vumbi(dust), joto jingi (sweltering heat), umaskini (acute poverty), rushwa. . . .

Tanzanians should also take opportunity of applying for jobs within East Africa, we should not sit down and complain since employers are looking for the best candidets to fill the posts but we cannot say we are not better than them.  I think we are just lacking the exposure and confidence.
