A building that was under construction has collapsed at Chang'ombe in Dar es salaam this afternoon but so far nobody knows whether there are any casualities.
The building, a new wing of a popular Chang'ombe joint going by the name of Chang'ombe village Inn, is suspected to have caved in following a downpour.
"It started slowly by showing cracks since yesterday but nobody could have guessed that it would eventually collapse", an eye witness told Mbongo.
Boozers were normally sitting below the building that has collapsed, but due to the lack of rescue equipment and expertise efforts to go through the rubbler were at a snail's pace.
Kenya has had its share of collpased buildings recently that proved to be fatal, and if the Dar es salaam case proves to be similary deadly it would set up a precedent.
Many buildings, especially those mushrooming on an almost hourly basis in Kariakoo area, are suspect as far as good engineering is concerned.
