Vodacom's rollout of a 3G HDSPA-enabled third-generation network in Tanzania will be the company's first outside its South African home market.
The HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology is faster than earlier 3G technology.
Vodacom said in February that it would spend an additional $126 million to build the 3G HSDPA network in Tanzania, which will allow subscribers Internet access at broadband speeds.
Vodacom is jointly-owned by Britain's Vodafone and South African fixed-line operator Telkom and operates mobile networks in South Africa, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho and Mozambique.
